Signs of enlarged pores, acne scars, wrinkles, and stretch marks can easily cause feelings of self-consciousness and dissatisfaction with one’s appearance. For people looking into minimally invasive options, microneedling can be performed to help stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and tone. As a popular facial treatment, our clinic can discuss your aesthetic goals, any pre-existing medical conditions, and microneedling options to provide you with an all-around enjoyable experience.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a nonsurgical technique that forms tiny channels along the dermal layer of the skin. Through the use of a handheld device, it creates microscopic punctures that encourage the body’s collagen production, a byproduct made with the body’s natural healing process to grow new skin. Microneedling can be used to treat signs of rosacea, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines and wrinkles. This non-surgical treatment can be combined with other procedures, including facials, dermal fillers, and BOTOX®, to help maintain touch-ups.

Candidates for microneedling include people who require treatment for scars, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles. Good candidates also include those with resolved skin infections, realistic expectations for their treatment, are non-smokers, and don’t have any medical conditions that impact healing.

Microneedling Recovery at Real You Plastic Surgery and Wellness

During your consultation without Real You providers, we will discuss your personal goals and needs as a patient, as numerous factors can play into your microneedling treatment. Dr. Smith will evaluate your general health, discuss any medical conditions you may have and any previous surgeries, and discuss any risks and complications that may come with treatment.

When considering your candidacy for microneedling, you may be asked to complete recommendations such as avoiding medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements.

Our esthetician will go over the procedure in further detail, outlining the procedure through the following steps:

  • Preparation: To prepare for treatment, our esthetician will provide numbing cream or gel, such as lidocaine gel, to numb the areas of the face and avoid unnecessary pain or injury.
  • Microneedling Procedure: During the procedure, they will use either a handheld roller or an electric tool to make microscopic puncture wounds into the skin. The needles will be adjusted according to issues presented, such as acne scars and hyperpigmentation. The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes to an hour at most.
  • Clean Up and Recovery: Once all results are satisfactory, all markings and any signs of bleeding wounds made will be cleaned off, as there is no downtime required.

At Real You Plastic Surgery and Wellness, Dr. Smith will monitor your progress, providing detailed instructions on how to care for your face after treatment. Request a consultation today to learn more about what microneedling can do for you!
