When your face suffers from excessively dry skin, poor skin texture, discoloration, and light scarring, microdermabrasion can be used to refresh your overall skin texture and tone to produce noticeable results. Microdermabrasion works as a minimally invasive method for removing the top layer of skin to promote collagen growth, and during your consultation with Dr. Smith, she can provide ways to correct minor skin problems and imperfections through customizable treatments. During your visit to our clinic, we will discuss your medical goals, medical conditions, and abrasion options with you.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is considered a minimally invasive procedure that works with a crystalized, tipped, hand-held device to exfoliate the skin deeply. The hand-held device reaches into the dermal and hypodermal layers of the skin to clear out clogged pores filled with dirt and dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion penetrates deeper into the skin by unclogging these pores, boosting the body’s ability to remove toxins, stimulate collagen, and lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Microdermabrasion can be used to treat issues such as clogged pores, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, discoloration, blackheads, and stretch marks, renewing the skin’s texture and tone. The hand-held crystal device works to “sandblast” dead skin cells by confirming the ridges and bumps in the skin, meaning those with deep wrinkles and scars can highly benefit from this procedure. Because of the nature of the procedure, microdermabrasion works best after multiple sessions separated out weeks ahead for improved results in skin texture.

Candidates for microdermabrasion include people with realistic expectations for their medical procedure and those who are unhappy with their facial appearance and don’t have any medical conditions that inhibit healing.

Microdermabrasion Recovery at Real You Plastic Surgery and Wellness

During your consultation with Dr. Smith, she will discuss your personal goals and needs as a patient, as numerous factors can play into the overall recovery. The doctor will evaluate your general health, discuss any medical conditions you may have, any previous surgeries, and discuss your abrasion as well as risks and complications.

When considering your candidacy for microdermabrasion, you may be asked to complete recommendations such as avoiding medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements.

Dr. Smith will go over the procedure in further detail, outlining the procedure through the following steps:

  • Preparation: She can use numbing gel or ointment to protect the skin from unnecessary pain or damage.
  • Hand-Held Suction Device: Once the skin is prepared for treatment, Dr. Smith will use the hand-held device to suction up and scrape away dead skin cells, clogged pores, and other features. Each treatment lasts about half an hour.
  • Clean-Up and Recovery: There is no downtime or recovery following microdermabrasion, and after treatment, the doctor will clear out any marks or signs of irritation, providing special moisturizers or facial products to enhance your results.
